Custom Mouthguards

Most cases of tooth injury occur during sport, and can result in lengthy and expensive oral restorative treatment.

Many of the most common sporting injuries in Australia relate to the oral area, and these include:

  • Chipped, broken or knocked out teeth
  • Cut lips, and facial area
  • Injuries to the tongue
  • Broken jaw

These injuries can be avoided or minimised by wearing a mouth guard while playing contact sport.

The Australian Dental Association recommends you wear a custom-fitted mouthguard, because unlike an over-the-counter mouthguard, a custom-fitted one will ensure maximum protection.

If your child gets a baby tooth knocked out that’s not so bad, after all, an adult tooth will grow there in its place. However, it is important to still visit a dentist to make sure that there’s no tooth root left in the socket.

If you’re an adult, it’s a whole other story. You don’t have the luxury of another tooth growing. Once you lose an adult tooth that’s it. If you’re an adult and your tooth has been knocked out and you act quickly a dentist might be able to put your tooth back in.

Not all mouth guards are made the same!

At justSMILE in in Ramsgate Beach near Kogarah and Rockdale in St George, we can create custom mouth guards tailored specifically to your mouth. These custom designed dental mouth guards offer far better protection and comfort over alternatives such as off the shelf or take home sports guard kits. This is because our sports mouth guards are engineered to accommodate your unique bite, and can be designed to accommodate your individual needs (such as leaving adequate room for changes in your dentition whilst growing or undergoing orthodontic work).

Children around the age of six and seven have what is called mixed dentition. Mixed dentition is when they have a mix of adult and baby teeth, which is why it’s important to have a mouth guard that leaves adequate room from growing.
